OUR STORY
10 years ago, when Ben and Samantha married, Ben was in law enforcement, and Samantha was in education. After a move to South Carolina from their home town of Kennett Square, PA, Ben decided to make the move into the food and beverage world due to a lack of fulfillment in his previous position. While working at a wood fired pizza and catering company, Ben would spend countless hours after work watching videos on how to make dough, details about pizza ovens, and everything in between. Ben made pizzas regularly for friends and neighbors on the grill, and eventually took a position selling mobile pizza ovens in Colorado. Samantha continued to teach while Ben transferred to another wood fired pizzeria and catering company in Denver, CO.
In the late Fall of 2019, Ben and Samantha decided to begin the process of moving back east to their home town and opening up what is now Mezzaluna! Ben knew he wanted to start a food truck, but had no idea how beneficial that would be going into the following year. After a few delays in funding opportunities due to the shut down in 2020, Ben and Samantha catered their first event for the local fire company (where Ben was a volunteer and they met!) with two Ooni ovens. Within a few weeks, Mezzaluna purchased a small trailer and had a few regular pop-up spots.
In the summer of 2021, Mezzaluna had a small team of five employees (Ben and Samantha being two of them). Mezzaluna was able to purchase a larger trailer, known fondly as Big Red by the team. This trailer was used until January 2024, and has since started a new adventure, as Mezzaluna entered a brick and mortar location in Kennett Square, PA! Mezzaluna continues to cater using a more intimate set up with a new trailer, fondly named "Chappy."
LOCATION MATTERS
We have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to pop up at hundreds of locations across Chester County, PA and beyond! So many local breweries, wineries, and local festivals and businesses took chances on having us out, supporting us, and sharing their customers with us! THANK YOU!
Our trailer is pausing local pop up events until after we settle in more at our brick and mortar located at 216 S Mill Rd in Kennett Square, PA. We are still booking catered events all across the area for fall 2024 and again for Spring 2025.
We are very excited to call Kennett Square home! This small town has so much to offer, and it was there in a time of need for Ben and his family when he was a kid. Now we want to make sure that we support and help families in need, provide consistent quality to neighbors, and do our best to always leave a positive ripple in the same was Kennett left a positive ripple on us! We are excited to be in a space where we can host local businesses and non-profits as one way to give back, as well as all of our customers who we have grown to know and love!
